The Right attitude.
U are going to need it. If you are impatient, rude, solitary (as in, thinking you are being polite by minding your own business, not interfering with others and expecting them to do same to you), think again. Wrooonnnggg country.
However, if you cultivate a smiling, friendly, patient mien. Well, a lot can happen to pleasantly surprise you. This is not to say there will not be times when u want to tear out your hair in frustration, But..... keep smiling. Think of it as a learning experience which will help, in other places and other situations.

May till July 2008
It's been quite an experience. Positive, negative, ridiculous. First and foremost, anyone who tells you it is Utopia here is just out on a propaganda tour.
I will write at lenght about all that has transpired in the last few months. It has been almost impossible to do because of my fantastic internet connection and i am not really a fan of internet cafes or maybe i am just plain lazy.

we are here!!
I have tried countless times to upload pictures. All ended up in dissapointments, same as right now. We arrived, safe and sound. He starts at an international school in east cantonments which naturally means i have to find something affordable in the vicinity, no mean task.
I have just about given up and i am considering djorwulu and abelemkpe.
When i say affordable, i mean between $500 and $800 which you can virtually forget in the center except it is self-contained or a 2 bedroom appartment or something of the sort.
Yesterday i discovered a restaurant called "The house of ovation", on a side street of the oxford street, just next to "exotic wares" an upmarket boutique. My type of food.

"Fluffiness, Air-headedness and being Happy"
Yep, I admit it, i can be as fluffy as they come. I just do not believe in being serious all the time anymore. There were times in the past, when i thought that fun and laughter were domains of fools and that the serious and heavy handed, inherited the earth. Now, i want to dance, laugh, talk to people i appreciate, step-out, write, earn money, and be happy.
I recognize that even the absence of a 'significant other' does not inhibit the sense of fulfilment i feel. Actually at this point, my form of celibacy. is of the chosen kind.
I will lift the ban on myself very soon, i just need to focus on this move at this time.
Do not jump to conlcusions, i love love and being in love, more than you can imagine, just a little time-out.
MY DEFINITION OF HAPPINESS
Wake up and know i am owing no one nothing.
Wake up and know my son is healthy and thriving.
Wake up and feel a sense of inner satisfaction which stems from knowing i am doing the best i can.
Wake up and know that given the right circumstances, i will do my best to help others, even when the circumstances are against me, i still make an effort.
UNHAPPINESS
Wake up feeling frustrated and most importantly helpless, because, i attempt to do my best, but i am constantly impeded. By what? You might ask.........

I still remember playing table tennis with him.
It was with shock that i heard this news. I mean i know it's normal to pretend people were saints after they die, but in this case, it is just the fact. Solomon or Captain Solomon as i knew him in Uniben was just an extraordinary person. His wife Judith won The Miss Skomit or Miss Uniben (forget which) and that's how they met. I even saw him later in Kaduna during my Youth Service and we partied together for months. R.I.P."The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Solomon Giwa-Amu has died in an automobile accident this morning. The accident occurred while the newly promoted officer was travelling to Jaji early this morning.
Giwa-Amu was a former ADC to President Olusegun Obasanjo. He was recently appointed director of public relations for the Nigerian Army.
It is not known if there are others involved in the crash.
This is breaking news. Details will be provided when they become available"
The Matrix Revolutions

Mr Smith: "Why? Why get up?
"Do you believe you are fighting for something?......Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom or peace, could it be for love? Illusions, Mr Anderson, vagaries of perception. Temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect, trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose and all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself........"
Neo: "Because i choose to".

An article i wrote just after the war in Iraq began.
SCENARIO 1:
POLICE ON THE DEFENSIVE.
It has recently come to the attention of the public that certain police officers in different regions throughout the country have been found guilty of using excessive force on the arrested.
Example: A man is overpowered and arrested for an offence. He has been handcuffed and is lying down on the street. Suddenly, a Police officer goes 'berserk' and starts kicking, screaming and punching this man. His colleagues had to step in to stop the attack...(No, this is not US, I mean in the Netherlands)
scene fades…….
SCENARIO 2:
WAR TALES
At a road block, somewhere in Iraq. a US soldier filled up with instructions about 'suicide bombers', soldiers dressed as civilians, women dressed as men, men dressed as women, Army Generals dressed as nomads (and the list goes on) sees a small civilian car, shouts HALT! from about a mile away, those in the car appear to have been afflicted with some form of deafness, blindness or maybe paralysis. In any case, they did not stop. The Soldier opens fire. Steps out of his tank to view the suicide bombers he had just executed and it turns out that they were two children and other civilians...
scene fades.…….
A United States tank on reconnaissance sees a suspect patrol in the distance. The colours appear to be those of coalition forces. They decide to play it safe and open fire all the same. A few of those in the patrol are hit, others come running out and waving at them. Once again, it looks like British soldiers in the distance, but you know the 'bl…...y terrorists' are so cunning. So, again, the US patrol fires...
scene fades.……
SCENARIO 3:
PROPAGANDA
We were told repeatedly that Sadam Hussein has links to Al-Queida and in addition is manufacturing Weapons of Mass Destruction. Till date, the coalition forces are still searching for these weapons which appear to have been hidden quite cunningly by the dictator.
Then there was the Iraqi Minister of Information who laughed away the news that the Saddam Hussein International Airport has been overtaken by the coalition forces.
"Impossible" he cries out. They are 'jokers' he claims whilst laughing away the allegations. To the comment that he looked 'afraid'. Absolutely not he says, "I am not afraid, and neither should you be"
scene fades.…….
The Enemy: All those who do not aid, abet and support the U.S. in their aims and objectives.
Strategic Warfare: War, which involves marching in, conquering the enemy within a few hours and marching out again.
Friendly fire: Being fired upon by your friend by 'accident'.
Collateral damage: When you, your son, daughter, father, mother, friend e.t.c are killed, injured or your property is destroyed because you happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Can also be interpreted to mean all that goes wrong during a war which goes outside the war original plan and has to be explained to the general populace.
Liberation: Bombing freedom down on a select group of people.
After-effects: A liberated Iraq with 3 major interest groups, governed by one interest group which effectively reverts the situation of the country back to the Saddam style of governance or if not, chaos and imbalance in the region.
End of the regime: Looting, Plundering, waving of American flags, declaration of 55 'most wanted', to be taken 'dead or alive'. Forget about 'innocent until proven guilty'.
Reconstruction: Dishing out contracts to interested parties from the U. S. and the U.K., to help re-construct what was destroyed by the U.S. and the U.K.

FOR THE LOVE OF SADDAM
Day 12 (or thereabouts of the war in Iraq) Advert on Iraqi TV, showing the public that the Iraqi people still love their beloved leader and he was still in control.
Scene one, take one: Around 14 Iraqis, brandishing their ammunitions, sing praises of their leader and pour scorn on the British and the Americans. It is obvious to all watching that these people are truly representative of the entire Iraqi population and that their praise songs are from the heart...
scene fades.…..
SCENARIO 4:
COLLATERAL DAMAGE
a. An Iraqi hospital showing (Ali) A 7 year old, whose arms have been blown off during an attack on enemy installations.
b. Various hospitals without even the most basic of medicine.
c. Women and children shaking and shivering with fear whilst been searched my coalition forces.
d. Looting on a humongous scale, even of hospital equipment.
e. Several private homes are destroyed in air raids and missile attacks on what appeared to be 'hostile' or 'suspect' areas.
f. Market bombs killing several and injuring others.
DICTIONARY OF TERMS
Weapons of Mass Destruction: Ambiguous objects which might either be visible or invisible. If they are found in the right area, the name changes to weapons of defence if not, they are known as weapons of mass destruction.

anyone out there living in ghana?
I will be moving to ghana in a few months. I intend to stay for a minimum of 2 years. My questions are, should i bother staying in accra since i think it is too expensive? What is the average amount of money i can expect to live on in a month?
Does anyone have reasonable accomodation? Tema, Cape coast, or accra (if affordable).
I have an 11 year old son as well, so a good school in the vicinity is necessary

Who can tell me more?
After hectic and worrying years. I have decided to move to Ghana for a few years. Only problem is, i was there for the last, 10 years ago. Convinced things have changed. I have researched on the internet and come to the conclusion that Accra might be too busy/expensive for me.
So whither o whither? Tema, Kumasi, cape coast, Tamale? I would love to live near the sea, in a spacious home where i can grow a few vegetables, and maybe keep some chickens and but also not 400km. from Accra which i would still like to visit from time to time. In addition, I do have an 11 year old son who requires a good school.
Can anyone out there help?
