Who can tell me more?

After hectic and worrying years. I have decided to move to Ghana for a few years. Only problem is, i was there for the last, 10 years ago. Convinced things have changed. I have researched on the internet and come to the conclusion that Accra might be too busy/expensive for me.
So whither o whither? Tema, Kumasi, cape coast, Tamale? I would love to live near the sea, in a spacious home where i can grow a few vegetables, and maybe keep some chickens and but also not 400km. from Accra which i would still like to visit from time to time. In addition, I do have an 11 year old son who requires a good school.

Can anyone out there help?

Hi Jummy,

You commented on my blog, Obroni Observations, and turnabout is fair play. Living in Ghana for 500 euros a month? Hmmm, and you need a good school for your 11 year old. Would you send him to a public school (cheap) or a good private school (not so cheap). Our kids go to SOS School in Tema, and tuition there is inexpensive, at about $350 a term per kid, but it is very very difficult to get into, with long waiting lists.

Housing, rents are relatively cheap, but you must bear in mind that you pay a year at a time, not month to month.

Food, will you adjust to local stuff, lots of fish, goat meat, chicken, vegetables, soups, etc. If you can't adjust well, then you might occur additional costs.

What about transportation, will you buy a car or use taxis to get around? Gas is expensive, insurance and registration cheap; taxis are pretty cheap.

Looking by the beach, consider Pram Pram or Old Ningo, just a bit beyond Tema, or go the other way towards Kokrobite.

Hope this got you started. If you haven't already, look at some of the posts on the Accra Ghana forum at www.tripadvisor.com.

Thanks so much. Oh yeah, the local stuff is great, That is my native food. Regarding schools. I would prefer something private. Thanks for the tips about areas to stay at. The 500 euros is exclusive school fees/house rent. I really do appreciate your response.
